Beckah Amani – Sober

Beckah Amani – Sober

Beckah Amani, the Burundian-Australian singer-songwriter based on the Gold Coast, has released a powerful new single titled “Sober.” This track is a poignant message of hope to those who feel forgotten and a call for reflection and action for the rest of us, starting with open conversations.

The song reflects on unnoticed stories, particularly those close to her family’s roots, and highlights the need for social change. Produced by British talent Jakwob (known for his work with Little Simz and Niah Archives) and recorded at London’s Strongroom Studios, “Sober” also features production flourishes from Alice Ivy. The layered vocals provide a smooth, cushioned space, while triumphant bursts of trumpet, played by Femi Koleoso of Ezra Collective, shine through a steady tempo.

Adding to the depth of the track is the sampling of an old Burundian folk song, traditionally used to welcome people and tell stories of unity and caring. This element brings Beckah’s heritage into the mix, creating a melodic glue that gives “Sober” its heart and movement.
